February 12, 2009 - Choosing camera angles

Today, we spent the day choosing which camera angles we felt bets suited each scene, and what it was trying to portray. A lot of different camera angles seemed quite effective in their own right, but there are only so many times you can match cut in the same motion, and we had to sacrifice some nice shots in order to keep within our film time limit.

Eni came up with some very interesting camera angles and point-of-view shots when we were in Derek's kitchen deciding on how he would enter the house. It was between whether we would have a P.O.V shot of the killer watching him enter, or a completely different view.

Another decision-making time was upstairs in the front room; where most of the action takes place. Because Derek's front room was quite compact, shots from all angles looked equally as good, but of course, a decision had to be made. Catherin got the shot from where Derek picks up the letter, just before it match cuts to a low angle, fully body shot, of him in the same motion.

Apart from these instances, the ideal angles for most of the other shots were quite obvious, and so weren't hard to decide on.
